Geneva Lecture Series
Since 1976, Geneva Campus Ministry and the ecumenical Geneva Lecture Committee have brought over seventy accomplished Christian scholars, writers, artists, and practitioners in a wide variety of fields to speak on campus. In addition to their public lecture for a general audience, many of our speakers offer a specialized seminar in their field of expertise, cosponsored by the University of Iowa department in that field. We also occassionally offer follow-up activities and clusters of events related to our speakers. All lectures are free and open to the public.
To be notified of upcoming speakers, please join our mailing list.

Sociological and Theological Reflections on Technology

The digitization of everyday life is one of the most profound developments of our times. As digital mediates our relationships, identities, and information, what effect might it be having in re-shaping our experience of the human condition? In a digitally saturated world characterized by both fascination and sheer exhaustion, how do we negotiate prevailing digital practices in order to meaningfully foster human flourishing in their work, family and community lives? This talk will explore how theologies of embodiment and Christian formation call the Church towards radical acts of recovering presence and place.
